About the Artist

Sheila Shuman

The arts program at my high school allowed students to study either Fine Art, or Fine Craft as a major. I chose Craft working in Ceramics, Jewelry Making, and Fiber Design. In my early twenties, my Jewelry education continued, working for a Silversmith from whom I was given the freedom to expand my design, and construction skills. I received a BFA/Craft from Kutztown University. Coming from a long line of women whose artistic outlet was Needle Arts, I chose fibers as my concentration. At Kutztown, in addition to Fibers, I continued my Ceramics, and Fine Metals education.

I have taught Ceramics, and Fine Metals at The Goggleworks Center for the Arts. I am also a Juried (Fibers and Ceramics) Member of the Reading Berks Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen.
