Hi, I'm Diane Dries, a mixed media artist who specializes in assemblage art and the heart and soul behind Me & My Shadow Creations. My work is unique and inspired—using cherished personal belongings from those we loved & lost or overlooked, unconventional items—giving them an unexpected new purpose and meaning.
Whether the piece is deeply personal or purely artistic, I'm drawn to the story each item will tell.
My Shadow: A Shadow Only Exists When There is Light
My daughter, Mandy Mae, believed in my creativity. She called me “artsy fartsy” with a grin and encouraged me to keep creating. She knew she could come to me with an idea, and I would bring her vision to life. The shadow that remains from the light she gave to those around her breathes life into everything I create, and with every creation I continue to honor her and her memory.
She was my greatest work of art — my masterpiece. Although unseen, her presence is deeply felt.

I create artfully reimagined designs from cherished personal belongings. Each piece begins with a story—a favorite shirt, a well worn belt, a piece of jewelry—items held close to the heart. I transform these treasures into symbolic visual images, breathing new life into items that hold profound meaning—to honor the lives that once lived.They are not just keepsakes; they are works of art made to be displayed, seen, and felt. Guided by the memories families share, I thoughtfully preserve the essence and character of your loved one.

From Challenge to Creation: Finding Beauty in the Unconventional
I also love a creative challenge. It all started when my daughter entered me into a “repurpose a bowling pin” art contest, saying with a smile, “I know you can do it. I believe in you.”To my surprise, I won first place. Since then, I continue to find inspiration in overlooked and unconventional items—as if they speak to me, revealing their hidden potential, showing me what they want to become.I transform these forgotten gems—like a weathered bicycle tire or a tractor filter— into something expressive, imaginative, and thought-provoking.
I give new life to what was cast aside and create one-of-a-kind works of art that reflect the beauty found in the unexpected.
The Sound of Silence: Clearly Heard
I've been blessed with a God-given gift as an empath. Sometimes, while creating, lyrics or words flow into my thoughts. I write them down to share with the family. More often than not, I'm met with tears, laughter or a story—as those special messages reveal something only they would understand. I pray for peace and guidance as I begin, never bringing frustration or noise into the process. I believe our emotions carry into the art itself. I not only want my art to be seen—I want it to be felt.
Ladybugs often find a place in my art; they hold a special meaning to me. Their quiet "hello" carries a divine message—reminding us that love endures.
From Vision to Reality: Custom Art Creations
