Mighty Joe Castro and the Gravemen are a Modern rockabilly americana from Philly. Sounds like Buddy Holly, if he’d had access to a stack of effect pedals and some Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Records” Formed in 2017, their goal is to play original rock-in-roll, in the style of the pioneers, but update it lyrically and sonically. “Philly-based singer-songwriter Mighty Joe Castro would fit right in at the Twin Peaks roadhouse. His retro-rock stylings channel the uneasy underbelly of 1950s American life; think equal parts film noir and Chris Isaak’s “Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing,” a vibe that perfectly coalesces in his new music video for “There Are No Secrets Here.” – John Vettese, WXPN’s The Key.

As a spiritual descendent of iconic women in rock such as Patti Smith and Joan Jett, ZouZou’s Philadelphia-based band also embodies elements of kindred spirits of the ’90s and beyond – like PJ Harvey and The Kills, with more than a sprinkling of ’60s Garage Rock and Soul. Their primal sonic attack spreads a message of perseverance through trials of love, loss and letting go.
ZouZou says: I’m very proud of our history with the songwriters and artists we’ve worked with coming up these past years, including Steven Van Zandt, Jon Bon Jovi, and touring with Joan Jett. I’m also proud of our live show being named one of the best of the year by Rolling Stone’s David Frticke — although now it’s a bit ago–it’s still something I pride us on today.
Still, one of the greatest quotes I’d love to use in the announcement is the Joan Jett quote: “Soraia is an extraordinary, exciting, and sure to make waves band who I love and admire.” She sums it all up so well:) And she’s my hero.
